US Embassy supports nine groups with $75,000 grant
Nine communities and organisations in the country are to benefit from a $75,000 grant to promote education, agriculture and economic growth at the local level.

The funds are part of the United States (US) Ambassadors Small Grants Programme of the US Embassy in Accra.
Beneficiaries
The beneficiaries are the Nerebehi Integrated Community Centre for Employable Skills (ICCES) Training Centre, Misthy Cee Development Centre and Ampabame Community, all in the Ashanti Region. The others are Keba Africa in Accra, Zimnuopare Community and the Ebongapar Womens Group, both in the Upper West Region.
The rest are Nyamebekyere Womens Gari Processing Association in the Brong Ahafo Region,Premier Agribusiness Association in the Eastern Region and Miyingor Farmers Group in the Volta Region.
Signing ceremony
At the signing ceremony in Accra last Tuesday, the US Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Robert P. Jackson, commended the beneficiaries for developing sustainable, high-impact and community-supported projects.
“As guarantees, you are joining a distinct group of communities and organisations throughout Ghana,” he stated, adding that,” You have demonstrated that you can unite your political, civil society, religious and business leaders to provide for the needs of your community with a little extra assistance from the US government, but in reality, the real efforts are yours, and we are honoured to be your partner.”
Projects
Under the support programme, the Nerebehi Integrated Community Centre for Employable Skills (ICCES) Training Centre will use its share of $9,000 for the construction of an electrical workshop, the Misthy Cee Development Centre will use its share of $10,000 to complete a school dining hall, while the Ampabame Community will complete a primary school and a junior high school with its share of $11,000.
For Keba Africa, it will purchase new furniture and learning materials for the Castle Road Special School in Accra with the $2,000 provided. The Zimnuopare Community will use its grant of $10,000 to complete the construction of a classroom block, while the Ebongapar Womens Group is to use its share of $10,000 to reconstruct a shea processing facility.
For their parts, the Nyamebekyere Womens Gari Processing Association, the Premier Agribusiness Association and the Miyingor Farmers Group are to use their shares of $8, 000; $10,000 and $5,000 respectively to buy new gari processing equipment and stoves.
