US Embassy commemorates America Independence Day

The Ambassador of the United States of America (USA), Mr Robert P. Jackson, has offered support for the transformation of the manufacturing sector in Ghana so that the country’s export to markets in the United States may experience increases.

According to him, good business also involves growing local economies and improving the standard of living of the people.

America’s Independence Day
Mr Jackson made the pronouncement last Wednesday at a ceremony to commemorate the 240th Independence Day celebrations of the USA at his residence in Accra.
The United States of America (USA) attained independence on July 4, 1776.

Economic benefits
He said there were efforts on the part of both the USA and Ghana to improve measures that would ensure mutual economic benefits.
“Even though we appreciate some limitation in infrastructure, power and access to credit, we are optimistic that we shall overcome these barriers,” he said.

Adopt new technologies
He has, therefore, urged local manufacturers to adopt new technologies from American investors as a means of improving their products.
He said technologies introduced by companies from America could help greatly to make manufactured products in Ghana a lot better.
“American investment in Ghana is a priority goal in our bilateral relationship since companies here stand to learn more about companies from the United States of America (USA) that have a presence here,” he said.

Vote on issues
On the forthcoming general election, Mr Jackson entreated the electorate to vote on issues, adding that “the interest of the USA is seeing a free, fair and peaceful election that represents the will of the Ghanaian people”.
“Make it clear to stand for peace. That you stand for transparency. That you stand for moving Ghana forward,” Mr Jackson said.

Commendation
The Minister for Employment and Labour, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, commended the USA for supporting the country’s economic development.
He further lauded the US for providing US$4.5 million to support the national election in Ghana.
“The government has put in place the necessary measures to ensure that the election takes place in a peaceful, transparent and fair manner,” Mr Iddrisu said.
