That, he said, had facilitated the development and growth in those areas. He made the commendation when he paid a courtesy call on the chiefs in Wa last Monday as part of his two-day visit to the region.

Tumultuos welcome

Although President Mahama was scheduled to enter Wa at  4 p.m. last Sunday, party supporters and others had massed up at Bamahu, on the outskirts of Wa, by midday on bicycles, motor-bikes and vehicles waiting for him amid drumming and dancing.

When finally his convoy showed up at about 6:50 p.m, they poured onto the streets and  together with his convoy took about one hour instead of the 10 minutes drive, to reach the Wa Residency, where he addressed party executive members behind closed doors.

At a welcome ceremony at Bamahu, where he addressed the teeming crowd, the President told them that he was in the region as part of his nationwide tour to seek their mandate as the NDC Presidential candidate for the 2016 general election.

He ,therefore, called on the people to come out massively to endorse his sole candidature as the flag bearer of the party to contest the general election to ensure a decisive win for the party.

He said the last election resulted in a court action by the opposition party due to the slim victory margin as such, he was on a country-wide tour to appeal to them to come out and vote to give the party a massive victory in the 2016 elections.

“The 2016 elections should be so massive that there will be no margin of doubt which could lead to a court action,” he said.

Electricity

He assured the chiefs and people that the power outage facing the nation would cease by the end of the year.

The President also promised that a permanent office facility would be provided Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, adding that special attention would be given to ongoing infrastructural projects, including the new UWR Referral Hospital in Wa,  construction of roads, especially the Bolgatanga-Tumu-Han and the Wa-Hamile roads and  the Wa water projects.

Poor roads

Welcoming President Mahama,  the President of the Regional House of Chiefs, Naa Dr Puoure Puobe Chiir VII, who is the Nandom Naa, pledged the support of the House to ensure peace and orderly behaviour in their traditional areas.

He deplored the poor road network in some parts of the region and pleaded with the government to improve them to enhance the movement of goods and people.
