The three, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing levelled against them by the police, were found guilty after the trial and were sentenced accordingly.

The 14-year-old was given a six-month jail term while the 16-year-old and Ali were sentenced to two years each in hard labour.

Presenting the facts of the case, Sergeant Michael Koole told the court, presided over by Mr Korkor Owusu Achiaw, that on November 12, 2015 at around 1a.m., the complainant in the case, a resident of Asokwa, heard unusual noise behind his house and decided to investigate it.

Sgt Koole said when the complainant came out, he saw the trio tampering with his water meter and raised an alarm.

According to Sgt Koole, the neighbours heard the call for assistance and came out to help apprehend the three.

He said when they were searched, they found one meter on them and sent them to the Asokwa Police Station where they were rearrested and charged for the offence.
