The Mirror hosts cruise on Dodi Princess

Ghana’s leading weekend newspaper, The Mirror, gave its readers and stakeholders a life-time experience last Saturday as it ferried them on a cruise experience on the Dodi Princess across the Volta Lake.

As part of the paper’s efforts to promote internal tourism and family relationship, The Mirror organised the aqua sight-seeing event, dubbed “The Mirror/Dodi world
experience” for its readers and stakeholders on the Dodi Princess boat at Akosombo in the Eastern Region.

The ticketed event shuttled 150 participants from Accra to Akosombo and back.

The event offered a platform for family and friends to bond through initiatives such as indoor games, live band on the boat, hiking on the island, swimming and water sports prior to departure.

Participants also enjoyed free eye screening services on the boat from Robert and Sons Limited, a reputable optical services company.

Cruise

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic during the cruise, the Cruise Manager and Services Superintendent on the Dodi Princess, Mr Victor Obilie-Mante, called on Ghanaians to patronise local tourism to help promote local tourist sites.

He said this would boost the sector and in turn improve the economy.

Mr Obilie-Mante said the country abounded in attractive tourist sites, and that it was an irony that many foreigners travelled to patronise these sites while Ghanaians preferred vacations abroad.

“This is the only cruise in Ghana, designed, built and supervised here in Akosombo. We offer chartered cruise, banquet, organisational meetings.

We have packages to suit your budget. Travelling abroad for holidays should not be the first option for people in Ghana.

I want to encourage people to stop going on vacation in Dubai, South Africa, Kenya and the rest because we have our own here.

The serenity of the environment is very good,” he added.

Domestic tourism

The Cruise Manager noted that although a lot of people now understood domestic tourism, as reflected in an increased number of locals that utilised their services, there was still a lot to be done for others to come on board.

Demonstrating an effective use of the life jacket and other safety and security measures needed to be on board, Mr Obilie-Mante thanked The Mirror and urged participants to enjoy the event.

Partnership

The event was in partnership with Robert and Sons Limited and the Volta Hotel, Akosombo, operators of the Dodi Princess.

The Events and Promotions Manager of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mrs Abigail Hagan, briefed participants on the Graphic NewsPlus app and guided them to install the app to have access to the newspapers of the stable, adding that vodafone and airteltigo users would enjoy some data benefits when they downloaded the app.
