‘Take proactive steps to improve sanitation’

The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Emmanuel Agyekum, has urged Metropolitan Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to take proactive steps to improve upon sanitation in their area.

He said the best way to do that was for the MMDAs to roll out measures to encourage the public to keep their surroundings clean in order to prevent sanitation- related diseases.

Mr Agyekum made the call when he joined the residents of the Awutu Senya District Assembly (ASDA) in the Central Region last Saturday to observe the National Sanitation Day (NSD).

“MMDAs ought to whip up interest of the people in environmental cleanliness so that the fight against filth and its attendant health complications could be won,” he said.

For his part, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of ASDA,  Mr Sampson Abbey Armah, said the assembly would commit resources to ensure that the area was free from filth and environmental pollution.

He applauded the youth for actively participating in the exercise and urged them to be ambassadors of environmental cleanliness.
