Special Initiatives Minister was taken out of context on 1V1D - PRO

The Ministry of Special Development Initiatives (MSDI) says the sector Minister, Ms Mavis Hawa Koomson has been taken out of context when she recently granted an interview to Ghanaweb concerning the types of dams the ministry was constructing in the five regions of northern Ghana.

According to the Ministry, it is constructing appropriate and meaningful dams in the beneficiary regions to serve the purpose for which the government initiated the One Village, One Dam (1V1D) project.

A statement issued and signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry, Mr Kabore Awudu Moro on Friday, July 19, 2019, said the Minister’s interview with Ghanaweb which “has gone viral was misunderstood, taken out of context and misrepresented.”

The Minister, Ms Koomson in the interview is alleged to have said that her Ministry was not constructing big dams enough for the beneficiary communities in the five regions of northern Ghana due to limited budgetary allocation.

But according to Mr Moro, the amount allocated for the dams was based on proper assessment, explaining that “the type of dams being constructed are well-engineered and appropriate for the beneficiary communities.”

“She was taken completely out of context. The interview she granted was about 3 minutes long but for a reason not known, some people decided to cut just 30 seconds section ostensibly to take her out of context and to play mischief,” he explained.

He said although there were different types of dams, the dams the Ministry was constructing were the Small Earth dams.

Mr Moro urged the public not to confuse the size of the small earth dams with Akosombo-like dams.

According to him, those who had taken the Minister’s pronouncements out of context were only playing political mischief with the project.
