‘Set up fund to support accident victims’

The Impact Souls Mission (ISM), an organisation that advocates road safety and regulations, has appealed to the government to set up a fund to support road accident victims.

Woes of victims

The Founder of ISM, Rev. Cyril Benedict Crabbe, in an interview in Accra, said disbursement to beneficiaries should be according to the severity of their injuries because some accident victims lost their limbs and when it was their arms, working became impossible.

He said due to that, some children of hitherto breadwinners had ended up on the streets as beggars.

“Most accident victims have been abandoned and cannot access health insurance. Therefore, we are creating awareness to help relieve accident victims from poverty and reinstate them in society,” he said.

“Every one can be an accident victim and, therefore, we need to care, feel and feed them,” he stressed.

For its part, Rev. Crabbe said, the ISM had planned a programme that would bring accident victims together to share their experiences for the public to support them.

The programme, dubbed: “Accident victim support”, will be an annual event to solicit support for victims of accidents, as well as remind drivers of the importance of road safety measures.

This year’s edition will be hosted at the STC Yard in Accra on October 18, 2017.

Rev. Crabbe called on stakeholders and corporate bodies to support the programme.

On the way forward for the nation, he suggested that a national accident victims’ day should be instituted to give hope to the victims and strengthen the national resolve to stop the rampant road accidents.
