School for the blind appeals for support

The Headmistress of the Akropong School for the Blind, Ms Mahela Narh, has appealed for support from individuals and organisations to help in the upkeep of the pupils.

According to her, the resources in the school are not adequate to cater for the pupils, majority of whom are from poor homes.

Ms Narh made the appeal after receiving assorted food items from MAXXI Brand, a tyre manufacturing company, at a ceremony at Akropong in the Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region.

Items

The items included 50 maxi bags of rice, 50 maxi bags of maize, 30 cartons of LEAP tomato paste and 20 gallons of cooking oil.

They were presented by the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr Albert Wu, who also assisted in feeding some of the pupils with beverages.

He was supported by the Chief Executive Officer of Robin Hood Inn Hotel in Accra, Dr Jenny Wang.

Mr Wu explained that the donation formed part of the social responsibility of the company to support needy institutions.

He also pledged to make the donation to the school an annual ritual.

Challenges

The headmistress noted that even though the government was doing its best for the school, it still faced some challenges in its management following the inadequate provision of food and teaching and learning materials.

The school currently has a population of 378 pupils and, according to her, more children are being enrolled, for which reason they need additional support to cater for the increasing numbers.

‘’Visit the school, whether you have a ward or not, to know our plight and see how you can also complement the efforts by the government,’’ the headmistress further appealed.

Gratitude

Ms Narh expressed gratitude to their benefactors for the donation and expressed her appreciation to individuals, organisations and institutions that have responded to the appeals from the school over the years.
