Rt Rev. Osabutey is new Methodist Bishop of Accra

The Rt Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey has been inducted as the new Bishop of the Accra Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana.

The induction service, held at the Wesley Cathedral In Accra, was performed by the Presiding Bishop, Most Rev. Titus K. Awotwi Pratt and attended by the hierarchy of the church, including the immediate past Presiding Bishop, the Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante.

Others were a past Presiding Bishop, Most Rev. Dr Robert Aboagye Mensah, the Administrative Bishop; Rt Rev. Dr Kwaku Asamoah-Okyere and the Lay President, Kwame Agyapong Boafo.

Also present was the James Town Mantse, Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V.

Performing the ceremony, Most Rev. Pratt urged Rt Rev. Osabutey to serve his people faithfully and diligently and to help do away with all doctrines that were contrary to God’s word.

 Sermon

Preaching the sermon later, Most Rev. Pratt said the appointment of the new bishop was in line with the mandate of God and the Methodist Church Ghana, for people to be appointed into leadership positions.

He urged the new Bishop not to be tempted to think that he could do the work alone and asked that he should work hand in hand with other people and leaders in the ministry.

“You should be humble and listen to the needs of the church members. Do not use any ‘soldier’ tactics,” he admonished him.

Most Rev. Pratt asked God to strengthen the new bishop so that he would be able to perform the task assigned to him.

The Presiding Bishop asked the congregation to support Rt Rev. Osabutey with prayers, adding that God was looking for people who would do His work and not those who just yearned for positions.

Most Rev. Pratt charged them to continue winning souls for God so that when Jesus Christ comes, all will find favour in His sight.

In his response, Rt Rev. Osabutey pledged to faithfully serve the congregation of the Accra Diocese of the church.

He was presented with a Bible, a pastoral staff, the Methodist Constitution, a pectoral cross and a ring as insignia of his office.
