Black Stars touch down in Washington, D.C. for final World Cup preparations
The Black Stars have arrived in the United States of America to continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, touching down in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday evening ahead of the final phase of their training camp.
The team departed Cardiff on Wednesday afternoon following Tuesday night's 1-1 friendly draw with Wales and landed in the US capital around 9 p.m. local time. They were met on arrival by staff of the Ghana High Commission in Washington, who extended official greetings to the squad as they begin their final preparations.
Carlos Queiroz's side will resume training on Thursday to fine-tune strategies ahead of the World Cup, which kicks off on 11th June across Mexico, Canada and the United States.
The Black Stars will take positive inspiration from their performance against Wales, where Caleb Yirenkyi scored his first international goal before a late equaliser denied Ghana what would have been a first victory since October 2025. Despite the stoppage-time heartbreak, Queiroz praised his players' response to his game plan, particularly given the squad had only one full training session together before the match.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England on 23rd June in Boston and Croatia on 27th June in Philadelphia.
The team is expected to play one additional friendly in the United States before the tournament begins, with Queiroz emphasising the importance of fine-tuning details and building chemistry among a squad that features a blend of experienced veterans and exciting young talents.
The Black Stars will be aiming to reach the knockout stage for the first time since 2010, when Ghana came within a penalty kick of becoming the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
