The armed men allegedly made away with GH¢100,000. They could, however, not locate where the dealer kept his gold.

Abubakar Fuseini, 40, the gold dealer, and Kassim Issa, 50, the security man, were shot in the leg and the head, respectively, about 6:30 pm at the office, which is located at the Obuasi suburb of Tutuka Sampsonkrom.

Issa was shot at close range and his head blew apart. He died instantly and his remains have been deposited at the morgue at the AngloGold Ashanti  (AGA) Hospital.

His boss is receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The Obuasi Divisional Police Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Kwabena Owusu Acheampong, confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic yesterday and said investigations were underway to track the suspects.

He would not give details but suspected the attack, launched by three men, could be linked to an “insider”.

He called for co-operation from the public to enable the police to arrest the men.

“Since it was not dark when the men attacked, we believe people saw them and their information would be of immense help to us in our investigations,” he said.

Fuseini, who managed to speak to the Daily Graphic in pain from Obuasi, said he had broken his Ramadan fast on the day and was in his office when the armed men charged in.

“They would be between the ages of 20 and 30 and they all pulled pistols from bags,” Fuseini said.

He said when the assailants entered his office, they ordered him to surrender all the money and gold on him.

“They also warned me to keep quiet, else I would be killed,” he said.

He said when he replied that he had nothing on him, one of the men shot him in the leg and he fell in a pool of blood.

Fuseini said when the security man tried to help him, a gun was fired at his head, killing him instantly.

The men then bolted with their booty, while the injured and the body of the deceased were sent to the AGA Hospital.
