The Majority Leader and Chairman of the Business Committee of Parliament, Mr Alban Bagbin, announced this in Parliament last Friday.

He indicated that the delivery of the message on the State of the Nation was in accordance with Article 67 of the Constitution.

Mr Bagbin, who was presenting the business statement for next week, urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to be punctual to the event in the House.

Expectations

The president is expected to inform the nation on the state of the country's economy, healthcare, education, power, social services and other sectors.

He is expected to outline steps being taken by the government to address the challenges facing the country.

Since the country is in an election year, the President is expected to touch on the financial commitment to the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure free, fair and credible presidential and parliamentary elections on November 7, 2016.

Although the President had addressed the issue of the transfer of the two ex-Guantanamo Bay detainees to Ghana, he is expected to touch on the issue in Parliament.

Thursday's message on the State of the Nation will be the last for President Mahama in his first four-year term as the country prepares to go to the polls on November 7, 2016.

Savings and loans companies

Mr Bagbin mentioned that the Minister of Finance, Mr Seth Terkper, had been scheduled to apprise the House on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, of the operations of savings and loans and micro-finance companies in the country.

He said the reference would be to DKM Diamond Microfinance, Little Drops Financial Services, God is Love Fun Club, Jaster Motors and Investment Company Limited and Care for Humanity Fun Club.
