Industrial fire at Miotso near Prampram extinguished; no casualties recorded

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully extinguished a major industrial fire that broke out at the Palladoor Annex in the Miotso Industrial Area near Prampram on Friday, May 1, 2026.

The late afternoon blaze engulfed two warehouses, destroying a substantial quantity of goods stored in the facilities.

After about 11 hours of intense firefighting, operations were concluded at approximately 2:26 a.m. on Saturday.

The Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Divisional Officer Grade II Ebenezer Yenzu, said the Service received a distress call at 3:11 p.m., with the first response team from the Prampram Fire Station arriving at the scene within eight minutes.

He noted that reinforcement teams were quickly deployed from the Tema Industrial Area, Tema Regional Headquarters Substation, Ashaiman, and Sege fire stations to support the operation.

According to DO II Yenzu, the fire was confined at 8:07 p.m., brought under control shortly after midnight, and fully extinguished at 2:26 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

He explained that the affected warehouses were used for storing items such as mats, doors, and mattresses, adding that three out of six warehouse units were completely destroyed.

He indicated that despite the scale of the destruction, firefighters were able to salvage significant property, including two-storey buildings, three rooms, four movable container houses, several barrels of diesel fuel, and six other warehouses containing chest freezers, mats, and doors.

Investigations

The GNFS operation was led by Tema Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer II Patrick Sallah, who, together with other senior officers, supervised activities at the scene and provided strategic direction. The Service also commended the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and other allied agencies for their support.

No casualties were recorded. The GNFS has since commenced investigations to determine the cause of the fire.

In a related development, the District Chief Executive for Ningo-Prampram, Raphael Uriel Nartey, visited the scene and praised the emergency response teams for their swift and effective intervention.
