Policewomen advocate for leadership roles
The Director-General, Welfare of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah has called on the Deputy Minister for the Interior Ms Naana Eyiah Quansah to influence policies to push qualified women officers to leadership positions within the Ghana Police service.
“We are pleading with you to use your position as a woman and a deputy minister for the Interior to influence policies, so qualified women officers can occupy leadership positions”, she said.

COP Addo-Danquah, who is also the President of the Ghana Police Ladies Association (POLAS), made the call when the association paid a courtesy call on the deputy minister for the Interior to congratulate her on her appointment as the Deputy Minister for the Interior and to pledge their support.

She also presented the statistics of women in leadership positions in the service to the deputy minister, stating that in the rank of commanders, out of the 18 regional commanders, there was only one woman occupying the position.
Additionally, she said only one woman was a divisional commander out of the total of 88 divisional commanders, with only 20 district women commanders out of the 326 district commanders.
COP Addo-Danquah stated that women were willing to contribute their quota in spite of their low representation in leadership positions.
“We have proved our worth over the years anytime we are put in leadership positions. we seek that women will be considered for command positions in the service as far as they are qualified since there are less women in leadership positions.
“The POLAS is ready to support you and your minister to improve on the security of the country as that is your core mandate and goal, we are ready to serve with our expertise and knowledge”, she said.
The deputy minister, who also doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Gomoa Central Constituency, also pledged her support to the members of the POLAS and assured them that by the end of her term in office, there would be at least an increment of 38 per cent of women in leadership within the service.
