Police Technical Services head bows out after 31 years
The Ghana Police Service has organised a hero’s farewell for one of its distinguished officers, Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr Samuel Monney, who retires on Monday, after 31 years of unblemished service to the country.
The pull-out ceremony for the Director-General, Technical Services, at the Police Headquarters in Accra yesterday attracted many senior police officers, men and women from sister security services, including family and friends.

A guard of honour featuring 48 men, two officers and a detachment of the Police Mounted Squadron and the Police Central Bank were in attendance.
Dressed in full police ceremonial regalia, COP Mr Monney took a salute and later inspected the guard of honour.
Fanfare
In a fanfare mood, some officers of the squadron unit mounted horses and led a group of senior police officers between the ranks of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who had lined-up to symbolically pull out Mr Monney, who was in a pick-up, from the forecourt of the Police Headquarters to signify his retirement from the service.
COP Monney, in turn, waved cheerfully at his colleagues, junior officers, friends and family members who had come to bid him farewell.
Citation
COP Monney had headed several departments, including becoming the Director-General of the National Protection and Protocol Department (NPPD), established in 2017 for special duties for Parliament, the diplomatic community and banks.
In a citation, the police described him as affable, dedicated and someone who had attention for detail.
The Director-General in charge of Welfare, Commissioner of Police (COP) Mrs Maame Tiwaa Addo Danquah, who read the citation, also decorated COP Monney with a badge of honour.
"As you retire from the service, we wish to recognise and appreciate your hard work and selflessness to the country, serving in different capacities as a police officer. You will be remembered for many things, including your affable nature, dedication to duty, diplomatic relations and your attention to detail.
"Serving for 31 years from October 1, 1990 to July 12, 2021 without blemish is no mean achievement. Congratulations, COP Samuel Monney, another chapter of life is here. May it be the best part of it all. Happy retirement from the Police Administration," she said.
Other tributes were read by the D-G, NPPD, COP Mr Patrick Akolgo, and the Religious Affairs Director of the Police Service, DCOP Very Rev. Fr George Arthur.
Gratitude
Mr Monney expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), members of the Police Management Board (POMOB), on which he served, and all officers and men for supporting him in diverse ways throughout his career.
"Undeniably, retirement is inevitable for everyone, and it is important to prepare for it. A reflection over our years of experience in the service reveals a mixture of good moments and downturns, but in all we look back with pride, knowing that we have significantly contributed to the achievement of a number of efforts in the service.
"It is always hard to say goodbye to those who are close to you, but when time beckons, you have no option but to face the reality," he said.
