‘No Konor in Yilo Krobo’

Some persons, who claim they are the kingmakers of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area, have said that the traditional area does not have a Konor (traditional leader) since 2009 when the sixth Konor, Nene Narh Dautey Ologo VI, passed on.

Numo Ebenezer Padi Ofantse, representing the kingmakers, and Mr G. C. B. Adjirackor, representing Yilo Krobo citizens, made the claim in a rejoinder to a story carried on pages 18 & 20 of the August 6, 2020 edition of the Daily Graphic.

Referring to a description of the Konor in a caption as ‘Oklepeme Anobaah Sasraku II’ in a picture accompanying a story with the headline: “President opens University of Environment and Sustainable Development”, the contestants said the man was known as Romeo Tetteh Kofi and not Nene Anobaah Sasraku as the caption sought to portray.

“We want to emphasise that the said Nene Anobaah Sasraku has, therefore, nothing to do with the Yilo Krobo paramountcy.”

Usurping of authority

The statement said the title given to Mr Kofi was tantamount to “usurping of authority of which Yilo Krobo kingmakers and the citizens would not take kindly to.

“We humbly want to draw your attention to the fact that the publication in question has generated some amount of confusion and anxiety in the traditional area and beyond,” the statement said.

House of Chiefs

It indicated that the Yilo Krobo chieftaincy issue was currently before the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi, “between the two recognised gates: Akrobetoe and Ologo versus Romeo Tetteh Kofi awaiting judgement. We, therefore, do not want to go into details.”

“We are, therefore, calling on you to withdraw that title given to Romeo Tetteh Kofi to calm down nerves as he cannot be a Konor for the area,” the statement said.
