New weighbridge constructed at Takofiano

A new weighbridge, constructed at Takofiano in the Techiman North District by the Techiman Branch of Kingdom Exim Ghana Limited (KEGL) for the weighing of cargo trucks to ascertain the exact weight of their contents, has been inaugurated by the Bono East Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Amoakohene.

KEGL, a subsidiary of Quality and Quantity (Q and Q) Services, constructed the weighbridge to weigh entire vehicles and their contents to ensure that they are not overloaded.

The facility is being used to weigh goods such as cashew, soya beans, shea nuts, maize and yam, scrap metal and landscape materials, among others, to determine the mass of the vehicles, especially heavy trucks for fees.

It is mounted on a concrete surface and connected to a digital monitor which displays the weight of the goods carried by the vehicle.

Manual weighing

Speaking at the inauguration of the facility, the Techiman Branch Manager of KEGL, Mr Sanjay Rajan, said the company would commit five per cent of its total revenue generated from the weighbridge operation to the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) for the development of the new region.

He said it was important for private companies operating in the newly created regions to support in the development of the regions.

Mr Rajan expressed the hope that the inauguration of the weighbridge would facilitate and speed up the operation of KEGL and other cashew companies operating in and around Techiman.

He explained that the company established the weighbridge in the district, because of its high production of cashew and cereals, explaining that the facility would ensure reliable and accurate weighing and provide the various produce buying firms with exact figures to enhance their operations.

Inauguration

Inaugurating the facility, the Bono East Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Amoakohene, appealed to the chiefs and people of the area to maintain peace to attract more investors to the region.

“Where there is no peace, there is no development,” he stated, explaining that the maintenance of peace and order was one of the various ways of attracting more investors to the newly created regions.

Mr Amoakohene, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Atebubu-Amantin, pledged the government's support to the KEGL for the expansion of the company's operations in the region.

Cashew merchants

For his part, the District Chief Executive for Techiman North, Mr Peter Mensah, explained that cashew merchants in the district had increased from six in 2016 to 16 currently due to increased production and the peaceful nature of the district.

He commended the chiefs and people in the district for working hard to promote peace and creating an enabling environment for the establishment of businesses in the area.

Mr Mensah said before the end of 2020, the district would inaugurate three processing companies, including a poultry processing plant under the ‘one-district one-factory’ policy and appealed to the chiefs to be prepared to release lands for more projects to be established in the district.

He again called on other investors to come and invest in the area explaining that land owners were ready to release lands for investors free of charge.
