NAFCO supports girls empowerment, donates to senior high schools

A number individuals and organisations continue to lend financial and material support towards the holding of summer camp for girls in female senior high schools in the country, with the latest being from the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO).

NAFCO has presented GH¢10,662 to the Forum of Heads of Girls’ Senior High Schools (FOHGSHS), organisers of the summer camp meetings.

Additionally, NAFCO has donated assorted food items to be used to feed students who will be taking part in this year’s camp.

The donation followed an appeal by FOHGSHS.

Speaking at a brief presentation ceremony at Aburi in the Eastern Region, Corporate Affairs Manager of NAFCO, Mr. Emmanuel J.K. Arthur said the gesture was to demonstrate NAFCO’s commitment to the empowerment of girls to prepare them for the future.

“As you may be aware, our CEO [Chief Executive Officer], Mr. Hanan Abdul-Wahab is passionate about education and particularly the education of the girl-child, and it is the reason for which he directed this support towards your endeavour”, he said.

The items were received on behalf of FOHGSHS by the Assistant Headmistress of Aburi Girls Senior High School, Mrs. Bernice Mensah-Akutteh.

She commended NAFCO for what she described as a kind donation.

FOHGSHS is an organisation that champions the empowerment of the girl-child.

It is made up of heads of all female senior high schools in the country.

This year’s camp meeting takes place from 14th to 20th July, 2019 at Aburi Girls Senior High School in the Eastern Region and expected to be attended by 650 female students nationwide.

It is on the theme “The Free SHS Policy and the Education of the Girl Child” and it is expected to be opened by Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh.
