Methodist Church inaugurates Upper West Diocese

The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church-Ghana, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, has  called on the leadership of the church to operate within its mission policy.

He said God is a dynamic reality whose agenda was not static and asked the church to refrain from enforcing the liturgy on the people.

Most Rev. Prof. Asante was delivering the sermon to formally inaugurate the Upper Ghana Diocese  of the church at the Rev. Paul Adu Memorial Methodist Church at Wa in the Upper West Region.

The inauguration also coincided with the induction of a new bishop deputy, Very  Rev. Francis K. Andoh,  who will take oversight responsibility of the new diocese.

The colourful ceremony was witnessed by the leaders of the Methodist Church hierarchy from across the country and congregants and ministers of the gospel from the church in the three regions of the north.

Most Rev. Asante advised the new bishop's deputy not to relent but to strive to change the name from the present Upper Ghana Diocese to a fully fledged diocese on its own.

This, he said, could only be achieved if the church rallied behind the new bishop deputy and made the best out of the little resources they had at their disposal.

"You, as the bishop’s deputy, will be judged by what is accessible to you and not what is not accessible. I, therefore, advise you to work under and hand in hand with the bishop of the northern Ghana diocese and by the grace of God come October 2015, we will have Wa and Bolga diocese respectively,"  the presiding bishop stressed.

He said the new Upper Ghana diocese must not be retarded because of complaints of lack of funds and other resources, pointing out that  “the church must strive to accomplish what is available."

The Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Abu Kansangbata, commended the Methodist Church not only for the spiritual upliftment of the people, but also for the socio-economic development in the country.

He called on the church to endeavour to initiate the process of establishing a model senior high school in the region and stressed the resolve of the Regional Coordinating Council ( RCC) to support the church in that regard.

He called on Ghanaians to be patient with the government as it worked diligently to improve the lives of the people.
