The launch performed by Prof. Robert Clement Abaidoo, Head, office of Grants and Research of the KNUST, who also an aluminums of the hall called for an end to the wrong conscioustization of first year students to hate a particular hall.

Unity Hall, also known as Continental Hall or Conti, has had a long-standing rivalry with University Hall also known as Katanga leading to unwarranted clashes in recent times.

He said such unhealthy rivalry should give way to healthy academic rivalry as the hall marks 50 years and charting a new course for the next 50 years.

The Alumni cutting the anniversary cake

Prof. Abaidoo, a former Dean of Graduate Studies, urged students and alumni alike to take a cue from the theme for the celebration: ‘Unity Hall at 50: Reflections of the past, present and projection for the future,’ and help transform the hall.

Among the activities lined up to mark the celebration include the provision of a mechanized bole-hole, roofing of some dilapidated roofs, health screening to the university communities, blood donation and to be climaxed with a grand homecoming of alumni and a durbar next year.

Prof. Abaidoo called for collaboration with the private sector to help increase accommodation facility on campus and also expand the Unity Hall facility in particular.

The Hall Master, Dr. Emmanuel Gikunoo, said the hall with a capacity of 448 and 36 flats is over populated with about 2,000 making it the most populated on campus.

He said the need for aggressive expansion of facilities to accommodate the increasing number of students was crucial to the smooth running of KNUST.
