The board, which is to serve as a bridge to promote regular interaction between the ministry and users of its services, will advise the minister on policy direction, planning and operational strategies.

Observation

At the inauguration ceremony in Accra, Mr Dery observed that among the member states within the sub-region, Ghana attracted all manner of persons because of its peaceful environment.

He,however, stressed that it was incumbent on all such foreigners to respect and abide by Ghana’s laws and regulations to ensure peaceful coexistence at all times.

“Ghana aims at maintaining peace, safety and security to facilitate business and trade and attract investment in its quest for accelerated development in a region which is prone to attacks,” the minister stated.

Counselling

Mr Dery urged the board to play advisory roles in counselling on issues such as cybercrime, human and child trafficking, land disputes, cattle rearing, money-laundering and narcotics smuggling.

“Ghana was placed on a Tier Two watch list of the US Department of State’s ranking for the third year running. This has grave repercussions both on human rights and financial support to Ghana, if nothing was done to remedy the situation,” he pointed out.

Collective responsibility

According to him, the government placed huge responsibilities on security agencies to maintain peace and security in the wake of the porous nature of the borders.

“We are working with other stakeholders such as civil society, security experts, the National Peace Council and all citizens to honour our obligation to make Ghana a safe country,” he added.

The board is chaired by Mr Ambrose Dery and has Mr Henry Quartey, a deputy minister, Mrs Adelaide Anno-Kumi, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Mohamed Fuseini Suraji, representing the Ghana Police, and Mr Kwaku Kwarteng,  a deputy Minister of Finance, as members.
