The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, has charged judicial officers to uphold integrity, faithfulness and justice in the discharge of their duties.
That, he said, was because the strength and future of the Judiciary depended on the character of those entrusted with administering justice rather than technological or infrastructural advancement.
Apostle Dr Nyamekye, who was delivering a sermon at a thanksgiving service to climax the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Supreme Court of Ghana at the Ridge Church in Accra, said, “The key to an institution's development lies in the character of its workers, and an institution does not rise in development above the character of its personnel.”
Judges
He said judges represented God in dispensing justice and therefore had a responsibility to remain faithful and truthful, and must be guided by conscience in every decision they made.
“My point is the judge is not just a smart individual, but a faithful and true person, because the God you represent is faithful and true,” he said.
Apostle Dr Nyamekye, therefore, urged Christians to demonstrate the values they professed in every sphere of life and added that faith should shape conduct both inside and outside the Church.
“As we bless God for 150 years of Judicial Service, how the future will roll out will be determined by the kind of judges we raise,” Apostle Dr Nyamekye said and pointed out that
“Posterity will remember you not for how smart you were, but how faithfully you served God and this institution, in the discharge of your duty.”
The Ridge Church honoured the Supreme Court with a commemorative plaque in recognition of its 150 years the administration of justice, which was received by the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.
The service reflected on the contribution of the Supreme Court to the administration of justice and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law.
Special prayers were said for the three arms of government and the nation.
Attendance
Among the dignitaries were the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, other Justices of the Supreme Court, the Judicial Council, Justices of the Court of Appeal and High Courts, Circuit Court judges and magistrates.
Other dignitaries were leaders from various Christian denominations, legal practitioners, government officials, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama; representatives of the security services, members of the Ghana Bar Association and members of the diplomatic corps.
The Founder and General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, who led prayers for the nation, government officials and the Supreme Court, asked God to grant them wisdom, good health and strength to discharge their responsibilities.
The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt Rev. Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, for his part, prayed for the Legislature, while the Founder of Fountain Gate Chapel and President of Eastwood Anaba Ministries, Reverend Eastwood Anaba, prayed for the Judiciary.
