The Paramount Queen mother for the Osudoku Traditional Area in the Shai-Osudoku District in the Greater Accra Region, Nana Dokua Amponsah III, has called on the government to balance the development of Shai and Osudoku traditional areas since they both belong to the same district.
Nana Dokua Amponsah said though the two traditional areas belonged to the same Shai-Osudoku District, the concentration of development was centred at Shai, especially Dodowa.
Interventions
Speaking to the Daily Graphic in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of a programme organised by the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection at Osuwem last Monday, the Paramount Queenmother attested to the fact that the current government was doing very well with a lot of interventions, but stated that a lot of such interventions were at Dodowa at the expense of Osudoku.
"Let me be frank that the government is doing very well to the admiration of all the people in the Osudoku Traditional Area.
There are a lot of interventions which the government, led by the President, the Greater Accra Regional Minister and the District Chief Executive for Shai-Osudoku have brought to the district, but the interventions end at Dodowa. Why?
“It is the nature of our roads that called for demonstrations recently by the youth.
If our roads at Osudoku are good, the youth groups have no right to demonstrate", Nana Dokua Amponsah explained further.
Appeal
Nana Dokua Amponsah said the Osudoku Traditional Area was host to the Volta River Authority (VRA), factories at Asutsuare as well as the biggest banana farm in the whole of West Africa, which is at Kasunya, stressing that the area needed a good road network to enhance its development.
"Mr President, all we need at Osudoku to enhance our development is the road.
When our roads are improved there will be a massive change in our fortunes as many interventions by your government will get to Osudoku.
“We are specifically concerned about the Asutsuare to Akuse road, the Asutsuare Junction-Asutsuare road, the Osuwem-Tsopoli road, the Volivo-Osuwem and Asutsuare township roads,” she stressed.
Nana Dokua Amponsah said Osudoku was the food basket for the Greater Accra Region and the nation at large in terms of rice production and numerous fish farms, stressing that the lack of good roads was thwarting the efforts of investors, including farmers, therefore the call for immediate attention to improve the roads.
