Foreign Ministry commiserates with late Victor Gbeho’s family

A delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last Monday visited the residence of the late James Victor Gbeho to commiserate with the family.

Mr Gbeho, who once served as Ghana’s  Foreign Minister, Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) and first President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission after its 2006 reforms, passed away recently aged 91.

The team was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto  Ablakwa,  who on behalf of the ministry signed a book of condolence.

They included the Chief Director of the Ministry, Ambassador Kadidja Iddrisu,   senior directors and staff of the ministry. They joined the family in prayers and paid tribute to Ambassador Gbeho’s legacy of integrity, excellence and service to the country.

Eulogy

Mr Ablakwa described the late diplomat as a mentor who generously shared “secrets of the job” that could not be found in books.

“My predecessor I came to consult, and he was so generous with his time, very gracious with his time. He opened many books and told me many secrets about the job which he could not write, which I would not read anywhere,” he said.

He lauded Mr Gbeho’s contributions at the UN and ECOWAS, especially during West Africa’s turbulent period of coups and conflicts in Liberia and Sierra Leone, and assured the family that the ministry would play a key role in giving the late ambassador a befitting burial.

Appreciation

The first son of the late diplomat, Eric Gbeho, on behalf of the family thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for honouring the memory of the late Mr Gbeho and visiting to commiserate with them.
