A Senior Midwifery Officer at the 37 Military Hospital, Sub Lieutenant Rebecca Owusu, affectionately called Maame Green, has pledged to donate 50 per cent of all proceeds from her two inspirational books — 'When Life Says No, Say Yes to Yourself' and 'Overcoming Life's Challenges As a Man'- to support children at the Ghana Armed Forces Special Needs Department.
She explained that the decision was driven by her conviction that “kindness is the greatest legacy we can leave behind”.
According to her, the books were intended not only to help readers find healing, strength and encouragement but also to extend practical support to children and families facing special needs challenges.
Maame Green added that while the books aimed to provide comfort and motivation to those struggling with life's difficulties, true healing should go beyond words and translate into meaningful action.
Healing, hope
She was speaking at the official dual launch of the books at Burma Hall in Accra last Thursday, where she emphasised that the event was not merely about publishing books but about inspiring healing, hope and transformation.
"Others will find strength to keep going when life has almost convinced them to give up. But for me, healing should not end with words alone. That is why 50 per cent of the proceeds from these books will be donated towards the support of the Ghana Armed Forces Special Needs Department because I firmly believe that kindness is the greatest legacy we can leave behind," she said.
She called on participants to become part of a larger mission of compassion and service, reminding them that many children and families continue to hope for support and opportunities.
Drawing from her own experiences of disappointment, pain and personal struggles, the native of Ejura in the Ashanti Region shared how faith, resilience and self-belief helped her overcome adversity.
Through her books, she encourages people to rise above rejection, fear and self-doubt, while embracing healing and personal growth.
Commendation
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Blessing, praised the author for documenting her experiences and life lessons through two inspirational books, noting the importance of preserving knowledge and encouraging intellectual contributions.
In a speech read on his behalf, Rear Admiral Blessing described the books as powerful sources of hope and motivation, addressing themes such as perseverance, self-belief, emotional strength and overcoming adversity.
He commended Sub-Lieutenant Owusu's courage in sharing her personal journey and encouraged others, especially young people, to transform challenges into opportunities for growth and positive impact.
Turn life’s no into yes
An Academic and Author, Prof. Goski Alabi, congratulated Sub-Lieutenant Rebecca Owusu on what she described as a priceless and timeless contribution to society through her books.
Reflecting on her own childhood, Prof. Alabi recounted how books on positive thinking shaped her life and career, noting that Maame Green’s works had the potential to provide a similar foundation of hope, resilience and self-belief for readers of all ages and backgrounds.
She described the books as powerful reminders that while people might not control the circumstances life presents to them, they always had the choice of how to respond.
