ASOHOM supports skills training at Chosen Rehab Women’s Centre

The Association of Spouses of Heads of Missions and International Organisations (ASOHOM) has given members of the Chosen Rehab Women’s Centre skills training, with an aim to empower them to recover from addiction and exploitation.

The initiative focuses on teaching residents to make wig caps and other basic hair-related products as part of a vocational rehabilitation programme designed to equip them with employable skills and renewed purpose.

The programme specifically targets former sex workers, pregnant teenagers and women recovering from substance abuse, to help them transition into productive and independent lives after rehabilitation.

The Director of Chosen Rehab, Abena Washington, said the training was intended to provide participants with practical income-generating skills that could support them long after they leave the centre.

She further stated that “recovery is not only about overcoming addiction; it is also about restoring dignity, confidence and the ability to earn a living,”.

By learning a trade such as wig cap production, these women can rebuild their lives and become self-sufficient.”

She further stated that “many women relapse into addiction or return to unsafe environments because they lack employable skills and financial opportunities after recovery”.

Initiative

Mrs Washington expressed appreciation to ASOHOM for supporting the initiative, describing the donation as timely and impactful.

She noted that vocational training had become an essential part of its rehabilitation model, helping residents rediscover their talents, while preparing for reintegration into society.

A Manager at the centre, Sarah Gymfua-Dah explained that many of the women entering the programme came from difficult backgrounds marked by drug abuse, homelessness, trauma and exploitation.

However, she said through counseling, spiritual guidance, therapy and vocational training, the center gives them a second chance at life.

The President, ASOHOM, Sovanna Taliercio, emphasised the importance of rehabilitation programmes that went beyond counseling and treatment to include economic empowerment and skills development.

Vida Mawuene,  from Luxury Beauty Empire, took the women through the training exercise.
