The Ghana Immigration Service has stepped up border patrols especially at unapproved routes in Northern Ghana following the terror attacks in neighbouring Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso that resulted in the death of 27 at the weekend.
Some security experts have warned that Ghana’s decision to admit two ex-detainees from Guantanamo Bay could attract terror attacks in Ghana.
The attacks in Ouagadougou at the weekend have heightened those fears and there has been some apprehension among Ghanaian residents living close to borders in northern Ghana.
The head of Immigration Service at the Paga border, Assistant Commissioner Francis Takyi told Joy FM that they have rolled our security measures at the borders after the Ouagadougou attacks.
This, he said was just to help avert a possibility of terror suspects straying into Ghana.
“We know how porous our borders are, so we’ve tried as much as possible to put our men on the ground especially where we have foot paths, places that people can easily cross, we are manning the place 24/7 to ensure that we don’t see situations where strangers will enter without our notice”
