Founder of Lupus Foundation heads AWLO Ghana’s chapter

The Chief Executive Officer of Majomar Montessori Academy, Mrs Rebecca Ohemaa Aouad, has been appointed as the president of Ghana’s chapter of African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO).

Founded in 2009, AWLO, a non-profit organisation, has its membership comprising women leaders from all walks of life across  the African continent.

At a colourful ceremony in Accra recently, which attracted some women in authority, Mrs Aouad pledged to foster alliance among women not only in the country, but the entire continent.

Already, she has launched a special project to solicit funds in support of the girl-child with disability.

Appeal for financial support

In her inaugural speech, Mrs Aouad, who is also the founder of Marie Thereze Memorial Lupus Foundation, made a passionate appeal for financial support to raise ¢45,000 for nine-year-old Irene Akua Kumi Cobblah, a pupil of  Majomar Montessori with disability, to enable her to undergo surgery.

“I accept the position in good faith. To begin with and as you witnessed earlier, I have launched an appeal for funds to raise money for surgery for the poor little girl.

“My primary objective is to embark on a project that will support female kids with disability not only in Ghana but beyond,” she added.

The founder of  AWLO, Elisha Attai, challenged women to take up leadership roles.

Organisation’s  objective

He  said the organisation’s  objective was to enhance leadership qualities among  women by bringing everybody together and exchanging views and seeing how the group could educate and empower one another.

“The organisation envisions a continent in which women take their  rightful  place as home and nation builders with equal opportunities and equal access in all areas of existence,” he said.

According to the founder, AWLO would from this year hold  two conferences a year; one in Africa on May 7 in Lagos Sheraton, and the second in America from August  12 to 16 in Houston, Texas,  on  the  theme: ‘‘African women transcending the globe and breaking barriers’’.
