Branded “Nyame Dua” Estates, the first phase, which would cost US$5 million, comprises 120 two and three-bedroom units, and is 70 per cent completed.

The entire project will be completed at a cost of US$15 million.

Minister’s inspection

Inspecting the progress of work at Kpone yesterday, a Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Mr Sampson Ahi, said the project was being done in collaboration with a private estate developer, Shapoorji Pallonji, under the public-private partnership (PPP) policy.

According to him, the project was part of the government’s interventions at reducing the current 1.7 million units housing deficit.

He said the National Affordable Housing Project was also intended to ensure that people within the middle-income class and below had access to affordable decent homes.

Flexible mortgage facility

He said the government through the Ghana Home Loans had put in place a mortgage facility for beneficiaries, with very flexible terms of payment over a considerable period of time.

According to him, beneficiaries under the mortgage facility would not be required to make any initial percentage deposit.

Mr Ahi said all salaried workers and some self-employed persons would be eligible to access the affordable houses.

The architect in charge of the project, Ms Gizella Tetteh, said even though it was an affordable housing project, the houses had been designed  to meet standard and quality, to make the occupants comfortable.

She said the company in collaboration with the government would ensure that the target group benefitted from the project.

Ms Tetteh said the estate would have all basic social amenities, as well as good security, to ensure a safe and healthy living environment for beneficiaries.

The Chief Executive Officer of the construction firm, Manab Pattnaik, said the company was yet to meet the sector ministry to determine the prices for the houses.
