Fire guts Odorna market

The mystery of market fires in the country continued Wednesday evening as a late evening blaze gutted the Odorna Market, otherwise called the Pedestrian Shopping Mall at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

Scores of firemen responding to distress calls were on hand to battle the fire which eyewitnesses say was noticed at about 8pm.

They told graphic.com.gh that the fire started from a container of largely second hand shoes and other clothing and was spreading quickly but for the intervention of the fire personnel.

Scores of policemen were also on hand to keep order as trader after trader phoned their colleagues to return to the market to see what was happening to their wares.

The police also cordoned  off the market to prevent possible pilfering.

The security agencies were yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
