Ex-convict in trouble for stealing

A 23-year-old ex-convict, Ebenezer Adekyere, who just finished serving his sentence on September 7, 2015, is in the grip of the law again for stealing.

He pleaded not guilty before the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Frank Gbeddy, and was  granted bail in the sum of GH¢10,000.00.

He could, however, not satisfy the bail condition.

The prosecutor, ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah, told the court that the complainant, Bismark Gamey, 18, a student residing at Natriku near Akuse, owned a motor bike which he used for his personal business.

He said on July 30, 2014, Gamey was on his usual business when  Adekyere asked him to give him a ride to Amedeka, a village near Akuse.

ASP Yeboah said the following day, Adekyere called Gamey on phone and asked him to pick him up (Adekyere) from Amedeka village. While on the way, Adekyere told Gamey that his sister wanted to buy him a motor bike and so Adekyere should teach him how to ride.

The prosecutor said Adekyere bought fuel for Gamey who took him to Natriku Park and started teaching him how to ride the bike.

ASP Yeboah said in the process of teaching him, Adekyere told Gamey that he should leave him to practise on his own and Gamey obliged.

ASP Yeboah said when the motor bike was left for Adekyere, he rode it away. He said Gamey then took a different motor bike and followed Adekyere to Akuse Junction but he could not be traced.

He said Adekyere was later involved in another motor bike theft at Ada where Gamey identified him.

Adekyere was consequently convicted for the theft of the motor bike at Ada and was sent to the Akuse Local Prisons.

ASP Yeboah said Adekyere was handed over to the Akuse Police on September 7, 2015 after serving his sentence, and was re-arrested to assist in investigation into Gamey’s case.

During police interrogation, Adekyere denied the allegation, saying “I don’t even know the complainant, let alone engage him in any motor riding business”.
