EPCG adopts witches’ camp

The Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana (EPCG) has adopted the Ngani Witches Camp, one of the witches’ camps in the Northern Region to support the inmates to liberate them from poverty.

The people in the camps are mostly aged women who have been accused of witchcraft, and therefore, have been abandoned by their families and the society.

Due to the neglect, they live in deplorable conditions as they lack basic amenities such as shelter and clothing, as well as food and water.

The Church would, therefore, provide vocational training for the inmates and also offer them employment opportunities to make them productive citizens.

EPCG/EEPT synod

The decision to adopt the camp was taken in Ho by the church at a joint General Assembly and Synod of the EPCG and the Eglise Evangelique Presbyterian, Togo (EEPT).

The joint synod is held once every three years to discuss common issues relating to the church’s development.

Describing the Ngani Camp as a ‘slave camp’ which needed a holistic empowerment, the Moderator of the EPCG, Rt. Rev. Francis Amenu said the adoption of the camp would serve as a catalyst in bringing the much-needed emancipation to the vulnerable aged women and girls at the camp, who were being denied opportunities through no fault of theirs.
