‘Ensure effective land governing system to enhance national dev’

The Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Mohammed Adjei Sowah, has underscored the need for an effective land governing and administrative system to enhance national development.

According to him, if the current challenges facing the land sector are not tackled, Ghana would not attract the needed investors into the country to accelerate growth.

Mr Sowah was speaking at the inauguration of a new local organising committee for the 2021 International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Conference in Accra yesterday.

The committee was set up by the Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana to plan for the 2021 FIG Conference.

Role

Mr Sowah said surveyors played a critical role in land management system in any country, adding that in creating a sustainable country, there was the need for effective collaboration among the various stakeholders to improve on the sector.

He said in dealing with the land challenges, professionals could use their expertise to facilitate national development.

‘’We will be able to meet the challenges when you use your expertise to work diligently with local communities and other stakeholders,’’ the MCE said.

He, therefore, urged the new committee members to collaborate effectively to carry out the tasks ahead for a sustainable national development.

Committee members

The Chairman of the 13-member committee is Licensed Surveyor Kwame Tenadu, with Surv. Edwin Addo-Tawiah as co-Chair.

Others are Licensed Surveyors John Christian Acquah, Stephen Djaba and Mercy Obenewah Acheampong.

The rest are Licensed Surveyors Gustav Kplom Asamoah, Obeng Ayirebi, Kofi Cobbold, Elizabeth Yemidi, Yvonne Danquah, Yvonne Odoley Sowah, Beatrice Abena Appiah and Ethel Danquah.

Collaboration

Lic. Surv. Tenadu said for Ghana to successfully host the conference, there was the need for collaboration among stakeholders.

He said the conference would serve as a platform to showcase the rich Ghanaian culture and expose the country to the world to attract investments.

“It will also serve as an immeasurable avenue for growth and evolution of the surveying profession in Ghana,” the chairman added.

He, therefore, called for dedication and hard work from members of the committee to enable them to realise their objectives.

Improved facilities

The  Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr Akwesi Agyeman, stressed the need for tourist facilities in the country to be improved upon to enhance service delivery.

He called for measures to ensure safety on the roads, stating that road accessibility would enable effective transporting of visitors to various tourist sites in the country.

According to him, when coordinated well, the event would expose the country to the international market through the diverse cultural exhibitions.

 The FIG is the premier international organisation representing the interest of surveyors worldwide. The federation comprises member associations and covers the whole range of professional fields within the global surveying community.
