Eastern Regional House of Chiefs to build new edifice

A new building, estimated to cost GH¢2 million is to be built at Koforidua to cater for the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs.

The building would have a room for plenary sessions, a two-storey apartment for offices, resting rooms, guest rooms and a car park.

It is to be funded by the chiefs and voluntary contributions from the public, especially businessmen and business concerns in the region.

Launching the project at Koforidua yesterday,  the Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, who is also the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, said it had become necessary to provide a new edifice since the current structure being used had become outmoded and very small without the necessary facilities.

The deterioration of the present building housing the chiefs had called for its rehabilitation, while other structures had to be added to it, the Okyehene noted.

He called on the chiefs, the people as well as the business community, especially those  in the region to contribute generously for the early completion of the project.

Nana Adjei Twini, Dwantuahene of Akyem Abuakwa, who is the chairman of the building committee, said construction work would be in phases and that the first phase which would begin soon would cost GH¢800,000.

He indicated that the committee would soon be reaching out to the public, especially businessmen and business concerns, for support in terms of building materials and funds.

Nana Twini expressed the hope that all those to be contacted would respond positively to help make the project a reality.

The Okyehene and the Nkosohemaa of Akyem Apedwa, Nana Asiedua, known in private life as Dr Margaret Atuahene, a lecturer at the University of Ghana, pledged GH¢10,000 to the project which has already secured GH¢20,000 as seed capital.
