Deputy Ministers end orientation seminar

Deputy Ministers of state have affirmed their resolve to assist their substantive ministers to inject efficiency and professionalism in the implementation of programmes and projects.

The deputy ministers made the pledge at the end of a three-day orientation seminar held on the theme: "Responsible, Transparent and Accountable Governance", at the Peduase Lodge on Tuesday.

The seminar was hinged on the four pillars of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto - investing in people, strong and resilient economy, expanding infrastructure and transparent and accountable governance.

It was opened by President John Dramani Mahama last Monday. Resource persons whose contributions helped in shaping former governments engaged the deputy ministers on topics considered vital to public officials in their work.

Briefing journalists on the seminar yesterday at the Flagstaff House in Accra, a deputy minister of Information and Media Relations, Mr Felix Ofosu Kwakye, said the consensus at the end of the seminar was that "the deputy ministers are poised to support the ministers to deliver the vision of President Mahama.

"The deputy ministers will offer the support required by the ministers to move the development agenda forward," he said.

Mr Ofosu Kwakye said the government was encouraged and impressed with the output of the deputy ministers during the seminar.

He said the seminar formed part of a series of measures that the President had initiated to ensure that the highest standards of performance were exacted from government appointees.

"It is to inject greater efficiency in the way governance is approached in the country ," he said.

The deputy minister said he and his colleagues were now much better prepared "to face the task ahead of us than before."

At the opening of the seminar, President Mahama said  it was important for the deputy ministers to refresh themselves with the overall vision and programmes of their respective ministries.
