COVID-19: Phase two of nationwide disinfection, fumigation begins

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has begun the second phase of a nationwide disinfection, fumigation and cleaning of the major markets, lorry parks, public toilets and public places.

The move according to the sector Minister, Hajia Alima Mahama is part of the government's response to halting the spread of the novel Coronavirus in Ghana.

"In response to the Coronavirus outbreak (Covid) H.E the president has directed the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Developments to coordinate with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to enhance the condition of hygiene in markets, lorry stations, public places and public places  across the country in order to contain the spread of the virus," she said.

The two-week exercise which commenced today [Sunday July 19, 2020] will end on Saturday, August 1, 2020.

The virus has infected some 27,060 persons with 145 deaths in Ghana as of July 19, 2020. The current active case count stands at 3,871 with 23,044 recoveries.

The Hajia Alima Mahama also urged all MMDAs to ensure compliance with the directive.

Some of the areas which have been disinfected and fumigated today [Sunday, July 19, 2020] included Agbogbloshi Onion Market, Mokola, Abossey Okai, Zongo Market, Kaneshi and Shukura.
