The GH¢12.4 million project, which was awarded to Messrs Usuya in January, 2011 and should have been completed in July, 2013, is only 38.40 per cent complete.

The government-funded project also included a replacement of the steel bridge over River Densu at Ayikai Doblo, a rural community near Amasaman, with a concrete one.

The bolts and knots supporting the hinge on the steel bridge have been stolen, rendering the bridge a danger to motorists.

This came to light when the Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani, undertook a road inspection tour of the Greater Accra and Central regions last Wednesday.

Work done so far includes the construction of the concrete beams for the new bridge over the Densu river, completion of 15 culverts of different sizes, and sealing works for five kilometers of the stretch that had been completed at the time of the minister’s visit.

Alhaji Sulemani directed officials of the Department of Feeder Roads (DFR), the agency responsible for the construction of the road, to meet with the contractor on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 to discuss issues bordering on finances and a revised date for the completion of the road.

The Kasoa-Amasaman road offers motorists a shorter trip from Kasoa to Amasaman, and to virtually all the Ga West rural communities such as Ashalaja, Ayikai Doblo, Pokuase, Adjen Kotoku, among others.

Its present condition, however, compel many drivers to go through the Awoshie-Pokuase road, now under construction.
