Catholic priest calls for unity beyond politics, ethnicity

The Parish Priest of St. Kizito Parish in Kpandai, Rev. Fr. Moses Nsenminya Yaw, has urged residents of the Kpandai District to put aside partisan politics, ethnic divisions, tribal disputes, and religious differences and work together towards the development of their communities.

He made the call during the St. Kizito Parish Feast, Partnership and Cultural Day Celebration held in Kpandai under the theme, “Many Parts, One Body, Journeying Together in Faith.”

The celebration brought together parishioners, church leaders, traditional authorities, and community members from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds to promote unity, peaceful coexistence, and social cohesion within the district.

Addressing the congregation on Sunday June 6, 2026, Rev. Fr. Moses stressed that Christians must remain united as one body in Christ and not allow political affiliations, ethnicity, culture, or religion to create divisions among them.

According to him, the district's diversity should be embraced as a strength capable of fostering progress rather than becoming a source of conflict.

“If our diverse cultures cannot bring us together in the Kpandai District, then we will defeat the purpose of God and His creation,” he said.

The Catholic priest noted that despite differences in language, culture, political beliefs, and religious backgrounds, residents share a common responsibility to contribute to the growth and development of the district.

He warned that divisions based on political, ethnic, or religious lines have the potential to undermine peace and slow development efforts, urging residents to place the collective interest of the district above individual and partisan interests.

“I urge you to eschew partisan politics, ethnicity, tribal lines, and religious differences if we are to achieve meaningful development. The body of our Lord is meant to bring us together and not divide us,” Rev. Fr. Moses stated.

He emphasized that sustainable development can only thrive in an environment where people live peacefully, respect one another, and cooperate towards shared goals. He therefore called on residents to promote tolerance, mutual respect, and understanding regardless of their backgrounds.

“Let our cultural diversity, religion, tribe, ethnicity, and political affiliation unite us instead of dividing us. It is only through peace and unity that we can achieve the development our area needs,” he added.

Rev. Fr. Moses further explained that the Parish Feast, Partnership and Cultural Day Celebration was instituted not only as a religious event but also as a platform for promoting social harmony and strengthening relationships among the various ethnic groups in the church.

He said the celebration provides an opportunity for people from different communities and cultures to appreciate one another's heritage while reinforcing the values of peace, unity, and mutual respect.

The event featured cultural displays, traditional performances, and religious activities that showcased the rich cultural diversity within the parish and the wider Kpandai District.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Parish Pastoral Council of St. Kizito Parish, Christopher Kwame Takpah, described culture as a gift from God that enriches people's identities and strengthens their sense of belonging.

He noted that the celebration offered parishioners and visitors an opportunity to appreciate the diverse cultures represented within the church while recognising the values that unite them as one family in Christ.

According to him, cultural diversity should serve as a bridge that strengthens relationships among people and encourages collective efforts towards community development.

Mr. Takpah urged residents to continue fostering love, peace, understanding, and mutual respect irrespective of their cultural background, ethnicity, religion, or social status.

“As we celebrate our cultural diversity, let us strengthen our commitment to building a parish community where everyone feels welcome, valued, and appreciated,” he said
