Ada West District holds town hall meeting

The Ada West District Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, in collaboration with the Information Services Department (ISD) has held a town hall meeting at Sege, the district capital, to explain the government’s policies and programmes to the people.

The maiden meeting attracted people from all walks of life, including chiefs, artisans, farmers and fishermen, youth groups and the member of Parliament (MP) for the Sege Constituency.

The major highlights of the programme included agriculture, national entrepreneurship and innovation programme (NEIP), job creation, infrastructure for poverty eradication (IPEP), among others.

The interactive programme saw participants asking questions on all sectors of the economy which bordered on their livelihoods. They also expressed concern about the rising child slavery practices in the district and stressed the need for the assembly to put in place measures to curb the situation.

Development

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr Adzoteye Lawer Akrofi, said the government was working towards bringing development to the district.

He added that the assembly had invited investors who were interested in bringing projects to the area. The DCE said at the moment, the technical team of the assembly was developing proposals to be handed over to the investors for their study and response.

Mr Akrofi said apart from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) which was received from the central government, the assembly relied mostly on its internally generated funds (IGF) for development projects in the district.

He said the assembly had put some measures in place for its revenue generation drive and, therefore, entreated the people to endeavour to honour their tax obligations.

“You all know that the DACF is not enough to meet our development demands. I will, therefore, plead with all of us gathered here to educate others at home on the need to pay our taxes so that the assembly can embark on more development projects,” Mr Akrofi added.

Sanitation

The DCE further expressed concern about the poor sanitation situation in the area and called on the people to adhere to proper hygiene practices to ensure a healthy environment in the district to avoid the outbreak of diseases.

The Presiding Member of the assembly, Mr Daniel Narh Amuyao, urged the assembly members to play their roles effectively in their various electoral areas.
