The Senior Brands Manager of ABL, Ewurafua Addo Atua, said former President Rawlings was one of 25 individuals to be honoured by the company.

She announced this when a delegation from the ABL, led by its Managing Director, Mr Anthony Grendon, paid a courtesy call on the former President.

The call was to, among other things, brief Mr Rawlings on some of the activities the company had outlined to mark the 85th anniversary of its flagship product, Club Beer, and also extend support to the Rawlings Foundation, which is about to be set up.

New designs

Madam Atua disclosed that the company was coming up with new designs to adorn its labels in the last quarter of the year.

She mentioned the designs as Kente Amammre and the Nsaa Adinkra logo and explained that the Amammre design represents the Ghanaian tradition, while the Adinkra logo stands for authenticity and originality.

Decision

According to her, the discipline, charisma and drive that characterised young Flt Lt J.J. Rawlings as President of the Republic of Ghana had guided him in his latter years.

Madam Atua added that President Rawlings tackled societal ills such as injustice and also had an inexhaustible desire to instil a sense of moral responsibility and accountability in public office.

She mentioned that one of such values, accountability, had influenced the corporate policies of ABL.

The brands manager enumerated many landmark achievements of the Rawlings regime, including rural electrification and the district assemblies concept that ensured a level playing field for local participation in governance. It also bridged the urban/rural gap by improving access to health care and education.

Support

She intimated that apart from the presentation of the Amammre Kente cloth to the former President, ABL had decided to support the Rawlings Foundation with a donation.

“It is our wish that you continue to work to ensure social justice for all and accountability, transparency, political and socio-economic development in Ghana,” she added.

For his part, Mr Grendon expressed the company’s desire to connect with senior stakeholders and iconic leaders who had stood tall on the world stage and made a real difference in the lives of people.

Former President Rawlings expressed appreciation to ABL and the delegation for the role they had played over the years and wished them well in their future endeavours.
