They are Samuel Kwame Akwetey, 35, and Isaac Agormor, 22, who, armed with a pistol and a machete, robbed one Georgina Boadi at the Kenkey Factory area,  Koforidua, on Nov 22, last year and made away with valuables worth GH¢6,200.

The convicts, who the police said belonged to an eight-member gang of robbers that had for sometime terrorised residents of the New Juaben municipality, were found guilty of conspiracy and robbery.

The others, whose cases have not yet been determined, are: Nicholas Eshun, Godwin Ametoryo, Gideon Boateng, Charles Awuku and Mahmood Zibo who has been granted a GH¢25,000 bail with a surety. Harrison Ofori is currently on the run.

Although Akwetey and Agormor have been sentenced, they are involved in nine other robbery cases pending before the same court.

Passing judgement, the presiding judge, Mr Ebenezer Osei Darko, said although Akwetey and Agormor denied any involvement in the robbery, the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that they actually robbed their victim.

He said the two deserved to be given  harsh sentences because armed robbery cases had increased.

Before the two were whisked away to begin their sentences, a woman who the police said Akwetey’s wife created a scene when she went to the courtroom with two of the couple’s children aged between six months and two years and conferred with her husband.
