Zongo Development Fund sponsors Accra Girls SHS project

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Zongo Development Fund, Mrs Ayishatu Salifu, has urged students of the Accra Girls Senior High School (SHS) to take their studies seriously in order to achieve their dreams in life.

“Most of the old students you see here today came from the Zongos and studied within the same walls that you find yourselves in, but they strived to make it in life, bearing in mind the slogan of the school which is ‘aim high to be better’,” she stated.

Mrs Salifu gave the advice during the inauguration of the school’s new entrance yesterday (Wednesday) as part of its 60th anniversary celebration.

The project was undertaken by the 1977 year group and financed by the Zongo Development Fund.

Mrs Salifu added that the location of the school had encouraged the education of the girl child within the Zongo community as Muslim parents within the Ayawaso North Municipality found it more convincing to send their female children to schools closer to them.

“For the past years, working as the CEO of the Zongo Development Fund, I have observed girls with their hijabs happily coming into the school as students. This is to say that girl-child education has improved in the Zongo community,” she stated.

Inauguration of school gate

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Gifty Andoh, stated that the new gate was going to help give the school a new face in addition to the landscape project.

According to her, the school aimed at not only producing great future leaders but to be counted as one of the best schools in the Greater Accra Region and part of the top five schools in Ghana.

“To be part of the top five schools in Ghana and the best in Greater Accra will not come by just producing great students and leaders for the country, but the facilities and premises of the institution count. Therefore, this project taken up by the 1977 year group and financed by the Zongo Development Fund is something worth celebrating,” she stated.

Support

The Chairperson of the event, Mrs Awura Abena Ocran, encouraged the old students to do their best in undertaking projects that would be beneficial to their alma mater as the progress of the school depended on them as well.
