VRA International School wins quiz contest
The Aboadzie Volta River Authority (VRA) International School in the Shama District emerged winners of the 2022 annual Western Region Independence Day Inter-District junior high school (JHS) quiz held at Shama.
The competition which drew students from all the 14 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) at Shama, was spearheaded by some traditional leaders of the region.

The winners bagged 47 points, while Christ Leading JHS from the Ellembelle District placed second with 44 points with Goldfields International School from Tarkwa in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality placing third with 43 points.
The annual competition, organised by some chiefs in the Western Region in partnership with the Western Regional House of Chiefs, is meant to commemorate the Independence Day celebration, foster unity among the districts of the region, and promote education among the 14 MMDAs through healthy competition.
Prizes
For their prize, VRA International School, which placed first, received a brand new HP laptop computer, a trophy, a multipurpose printer, plaques, gold medals, textbooks, exercise books, mathematical sets, three tablets, school bags and certificates for all contestants.
The first runner-up, Christ Leading JHS, received a brand new HP laptop, silver medals, tablets for the contestants, books, certificates, plaques and school bags.
Third-placed Goldfields International School also received a brand-new HP laptop, books, tablets, certificates, school bags, bronze medals and plaques.
The fourth to 14th-placed schools also took home books, certificates, school bags and plaques among other prizes.
Adwoa Entiwah Ntim of the VRA International School and Dahlia Nyanzu of the Christ Leading School received the HRH Tetrete Okuamuah Sekyim Special award for the best contestant and best female contestant respectively.
Intellectual excellence
Speaking at the event, the Paramount Chief of the Wassa Amenfi Traditional Area, Tetrete Okuamuah Sekyim II, who represented the Western Regional House of Chiefs, commended the participants for exhibiting excellent intellectual display in the competition.
He gave the assurance that the region's traditional leaders would continue to support education at all levels.
Tetrete Sekyim II, who is the patron of the annual quiz organising and planning committee, praised Goldfields Ghana Ltd, the headline sponsors, and the gold sponsors made up of Karpowership Ghana, Ghana Gas, and Takoradi International Company Ltd and others.
