Formalities

When the Daily Graphic visited the campus at Somanya at 11:30 a.m. last Saturday, some of the students with their parents had reported to go through the admission formalities.

The Registrar of the University, Mrs Mary Abena Agyepong, who welcomed the students and their parents on behalf of the school’s administration, said that those admitted were lucky.

She indicated that many applied for admission but not everyone was admitted but with time, more would also get the chance.

She was hopeful that when lecture halls were completed, it would improve the admission of students who though had qualified were yet to be admitted.

The registrar, who conducted some of the students and parents round the hostel facility on campus, assured parents of the safety of their children while on campus.

Nurses

She pointed out that the Yilo Krobo municipal health directorate had positioned nurses on campus to ensure their health safety.

‘’We began well because almost all that we need have been provided including human resource. In any case, there are others on the way and as and when we are given the green light, we shall recruit more,’’ the registrar emphasised.

She cautioned the students to adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols as they stayed on campus.

According to the registrar, registration of the new entrants would continue with other activities including orientation till January 25, when lectures would begin.

UESD mandate

The Vice-Chancellor of the UESD, Prof. Eric Nyarko-Sampson, gave the assurance that the university would abide by its mandate in Act 898 2015 and impact the university’s communities with quality students and products.

He said the students found themselves in the best and conducive environment, which would translate into the vision of the UESD to provide hope to them.

‘’You must be hopeful in yourselves and provide hope for your communities and the world at large,’’ the Vice-Chancellor added.

Some of the students who spoke to the Daily Graphic were excited about the environment they found themselves in.

Students

Ms Fannila Natey, who is pursuing Bachelor of Science in Mathematics said she was sure to make an impact at the end of the course.

She said, ‘’the environment alone is a morale booster for me to learn and achieve my dream and aim in life”.

Ms Barbara Mensah, 22, who is studying Sustainable Development said, ‘’I really like the place. I was thinking I would find myself in an environment full of inconveniences but I have got the best and I need to make use of it. I, therefore, assure my parents that their efforts will not be in vain’’.

Nana Abena Gyamfi,a Stainable Development student, who was the first to register, said she was very impressed about the environment, adding I thought it was one of the normal universities, but here everything is extraordinary.

A parent, Reverend Benjamin Gyamfi, commenting on the facilities, said “your facilities really talk about what you intend doing’’.
