You will gain wisdom and understanding from the Bible that you cannot get anywhere else,” a former First Lady, Dr (Mrs) Ernestina Naadu Mills, has said.

According to her, the best preparation students could make to live a fully functional life was; “to be at peace with God and to effectively serve Christ and your family, this nation and humanity”.

Dr Ernestina Naadu Mills said this at the  distribution of New Living Translation(NLT) Bibles from the Ghana First Lady High Schools Bible Project to students of the Yaa Asantewaa Girls Senior High School in Kumasi.

She said although she was glad to be at the school, the most important thing was for the students to make every effort to read the Bibles given them to allow God’s word to help them to develop a very close friendship with the Lord Jesus.

The former first lady said Jesus would give meaning and direction to their lives through His word.

“I guarantee you that regular Bible reading will make you a better person. It will make you to be at peace with God, It will make you to be at peace with yourself and it will help you to be at peace with other people,” she said.

According to her, the Bible clearly instructed young people to take responsibility for their own spirituality and to fully interact with God’s word; to read, study, meditate, memorise, obey and practise God’s word.

The Bible, Dr Mrs Mills said, must become the standard of their conduct and the goal of their actions.

“The Bible addresses the kinds of challenges we face in Ghana: inter-tribal and communal peace, poverty, disease, responding to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, reconciliation and developing sound human capital for national development.

“As a young person, my own personal encounter with the Bible was significant, and it transformed my life. I, therefore, urge you to read this NLT Bible that I am placing in your hands and obey what it says”.

Dr Mrs Mills noted that the Bible was indeed a very precious resource.

She said there was so much to benefit from using the Bible and following very closely its guidelines and instructions.

She was, particularly, grateful to Dr Mark Taylor, President and CEO of Tyndale Publishers, for taking her request for Bibles seriously and working on the project with his team.

Tyndale House Publishers will provide 500,000 Bibles at a local market value of GH¢10 million for free distribution.
