SLOPSA supports 5 institutions for COVID-19 fight

THE St Louis Senior High Past Students Association (SLOPSA) has supported five institutions in the fight against COVID-19.The group presented personal protective equipment (PPE) and other items along with cash to the tune of GH¢80,000 to the five institutions.

Among the philanthropic gestures, the group donated GH¢20,000 to the National COVID-19 Trust Fund to support government’s emergency response to the global health crisis.

In her remarks after the presentation, the Chairperson of the SLOPSA COVID-19 Committee, Dr Mrs Gloria A. Ansong, said some items had already been presented to the Suntreso Government Hospital and the Emena Hospital, both in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, to aid the frontline health professionals in the management of the disease.

She said the St Louis Senior High School and the St Louis College of Education also received sanitisers, tissue paper, liquid soap, rubbing alcohol, N95 masks, Veronica buckets, disposable gloves, surgical masks, waste bins, overall gowns and thermometer guns, among others, from the group.

“It is heartwarming for SLOPSA to support an initiative such as the trust fund aimed at marshalling resources to boost the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. We would like to encourage other associations and corporate institutions to support the fund,” she said.

The St Louis Senior High School Past Students Association (SLOPSA) is raising funds to support the construction of a 600-bed dormitory for the school, estimated at $700,000 (GH¢2.7 million).

Essence of support
The Global President of SLOPSA, Ms Julian Bruce, said the recipient hospitals were selected because they were the designated health institutions where students and staff of St Louis SHS sought medical attention.

She said contributions were primarily solicited from individual SLOPSANs.

Ms Bruce noted that  managing the pandemic required the collaboration of all to contain its spread and minimise the impact on lives and businesses.

“For Team SLOPSA, the donations form part of our social responsibility. We saw it as prudent to support the government’s efforts to curb the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.

Gratitude
The Chairperson of the COVID-19 Trust Fund, Justice Sophia Akuffo, expressed appreciation to SLOPSA for the gesture.
