Parents urged to assist their wards progress in life
Parents have been urged to make sacrifices to assist their wards to remain in school instead of engaging them in petty trading and other economic ventures which may stagger the competences, skills and knowledge they may need to progress in life.

The Accra Metropolitan Director of Education, Mr Alfred Kofi Osei, who made the statement at the 16th graduation/speech and prize-giving day ceremony of GAG Blessed Home Preparatory and Junior High School in Accra, said the role of parents in education was of prime importance.
He stated that parents needed to create an atmosphere of love, peace and acceptance at home for the child to gain the requisite fortitude and the emotional balance to fit into the larger society and in school.
“Parents also need to pay their ward’s fees promptly and supervise their home assignments,” he added.
Parents who have heavy schedules would have to consciously programme themselves to spend quality time with their children to enable them to appreciate their presence.
Speaking on the theme: “Developing a Ghanaian child capable of solving his challenges,” Mr Osei charged teachers to be ready at all times to update their knowledge, skills and competences to match the current trends in education.
He said teachers were expected to remain committed to their work and take interest in self-development, thereby equipping themselves with refined skills to teach, instruct and provide relevant guidance for children to achieve the best in terms of their strengths.
He pleaded with the school and parents to bring back time-honoured training that produced the much respected and good personalities, saying that an education without good character is nothing.
The proprietress of the school, Mrs Gladys Bludo urged parents to ensure that their homes promote sound moral values.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr Roland Armah, appealed to Ghana Education Service (GES) to champion the cause of improving upon the current education system that would help develop and guide the child to nurture his or her talent at an early stage in life.
The Chairperson, Mr Bernard Ahiafor (the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi South), in a brief remark commended both teaching and non-teaching staff for their immense contribution towards the success of the students and urged stakeholders of education and individuals to collectively identify and acknowledge the vulnerability of “growing children” and ensure that they were “moulded” to acquire the right basic skills for life.
