The Ghana Education Service (GES) has asked school authorities not to prevent students from writing the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) over non-payment of school fees.
The GES has further urged parents to pay in full the third term fees of their wards in the final year or have their results blocked by the West African Examinations Council.
The GES however notes that with the exception of examination fees, the feeding fees should be paid based on the number of days the student spends in school.
This follows misunderstanding among some parents, students and some heads of public senior high schools across the country regarding the billing, payment and collection of third term school fees.
Last week, Starr FM reported that about 400 WASSCE candidates at the Mount Sinai Senior High School in the Eastern region were prevented by the school authorities from writing the exams over unpaid fees.
But a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations at the GES, Rev. Jonathan Bettey, said no student should be denied the opportunity to write the examinations due to none payment of fees.
The GES further entreated parents to make efforts to pay all outstanding fees to avoid student indebtedness.
“Moreover, management is duly aware of the financial challenges of some parents, so there is a cushioning for them to pay the bills by instalments event if it is on a daily basis,” the statement said.
