‘Motivate teachers for better results’

The Guidance and Counselling Coordinator at the Tema Metro Office of the Ghana Education Service, Mrs Gifty M. Azeko, has urged private school operators to motivate teachers in their schools for better results.

Addressing the maiden Speech and Prize-giving Day and eighth graduation ceremony of My Kid’s College at Lashibi in Tema last Saturday, she said prompt payment of salaries, for example, was necessary to keep teachers motivated to offer quality service.

That, she said, would enable private schools to attract qualified teachers and ensure higher retention rate to complement the efforts of the government in broadening access to quality education.

Productivity

“Schools achieve efficiency and high productivity which leads to excellence when they implement measures that motivate teachers,” she said.
“Motivation comes in different forms, beginning with the prompt payment of reasonable salaries to refresher courses, to award schemes, among other packages,” she added.

Nine Kindergarten 2 pupils who had progressed to Primary 1 graduated at the event, which was dubbed “Discipline: a required skill for academic excellence – a stakeholders’ take”.

The ceremony was characterised by performances of poetry recitals, choreography, drama and a fashion show by pupils.

Be role models

Mrs Azeko urged teachers to regard themselves as role models to their pupils and to adopt positive behaviours in the classroom to effectively instil discipline in the pupils.

She also urged parents to make the home an extension of the classroom by expressing keen interest in the academic work of their children and ensuring that much of their stay at home would be dedicated to their books.

The Proprietress of the school, Ms Jennifer O. Appiah, said the school, since its establishment in 2008, had prioritised quality training of its pupils to the satisfaction of parents.

She said from September this year, the school would operate a Junior High School department as part of efforts to expand its operations.

She appealed to parents to continue to support the school to enable it to effectively deliver on its vision to offer standardised training to its pupils.
